February is the warmest month in New Zealand, and this one-way sailing makes the most of it. Two days out of Sydney comes the day in Fiordland, Milford, Doubtful and Dusky Sounds in turn, then three cities on three days: Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington, where the cable car climbs to the Botanic Garden and Te Papa, the national museum, is free to visit. After a day at sea, Tauranga, for Rotorua or the beach at Mount Maunganui, and the Bay of Islands, before arriving in Auckland at six in the morning on 10 February. Add a few days in the city, or on Waiheke Island, before flying home.
