About Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises is an upper-premium line built around food and destinations rather than waterslides and Broadway shows. Its ships are small, from 684 to 1,250 guests, with every specialty restaurant included in the fare, Elegant Casual evenings and no formal nights, no jacket required. It suits well-travelled couples who want quieter ships, port-intensive itineraries and cooking classes at sea over big-ship entertainment, and who are happy paying a premium fare for a more polished experience.

Oceania Riviera is based in Sydney for her second Australian summer, sailing from December 2026 to March 2027 before Oceania Vista takes over the homeport in 2027 to 28. The season opens with Outback Byways, a 12 night round trip to the Great Barrier Reef departing 3 December 2026, then longer voyages toward Western Australia, a New Zealand circuit, and repositioning sailings on to Singapore and Japan through to March 2027.

Riviera carries 1,250 guests, built in 2012 and fully re-inspired in 2022 with new suites and public spaces throughout. Dining runs across several included restaurants: the Grand Dining Room, Polo Grill, Toscana, Red Ginger and Jacques, plus the 10 guest private room, Privée, and the Culinary Center, the first hands-on cooking school at sea. There is no casino-floor buzz here, just a residential, art-filled ship built for lingering over dinner.

Oceania Cruises, answered

Where does Oceania Cruises sail from in Australia?

Sydney. Oceania Riviera is based there from December 2026 to March 2027, her second Australian summer before Oceania Vista takes over the homeport in 2027 to 28. The season opens with a 12 night Great Barrier Reef round trip, then longer voyages to Western Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Outside the local season, Australians fly-cruise with Oceania across Europe, Alaska, Asia and the Americas.

What is included in an Oceania Cruises fare?

Every fare includes your stateroom, dining at every restaurant on board including the specialty rooms, in-suite dining, soft drinks, juices and speciality coffee, unlimited Wi-Fi, group fitness classes, laundry and gratuities. You also choose one of a shore excursion credit or complimentary wine and beer by the glass at lunch and dinner. Alcohol beyond that is extra.

What is Oceania Riviera like?

Riviera carries 1,250 guests, built in 2012 and fully re-inspired in 2022 with new suites and public spaces. Dining runs across the Grand Dining Room, Polo Grill, Toscana, Red Ginger and Jacques, plus the 10 guest Privée, all at no extra charge, and the Culinary Center runs hands-on cooking classes. It is a quiet, residential-feeling ship with no casino floor or Broadway-style theatre.

Who does Oceania Cruises suit?

Well-travelled couples who want the best food at sea, port-intensive itineraries and a quieter ship over big-ship attractions. Riviera has no waterslides or kids’ water park, so families wanting those should look at a bigger ship, though older children happy with good food and shore excursions do well on board.

What is Your World Included and how does the drinks or shore credit choice work?

Your World Included is Oceania’s standard fare: dining, Wi-Fi, laundry and gratuities are already in the price, and you choose either a shore excursion credit or complimentary wine and beer by the glass with lunch and dinner. We run the numbers both ways so you can see which suits how you plan to spend your days ashore.

When is the best time to sail Oceania in Australia and New Zealand?

December to March, when Riviera is in Sydney and the weather suits her Great Barrier Reef and New Zealand itineraries. The 12 night Outback Byways round trip is the easiest first taste of Oceania from Sydney; the longer repositioning voyages to Western Australia and New Zealand suit those with more time for slower, port-intensive travel.

How do I book Oceania Cruises through Luxury Cruises Guide?
