A premium, mid-sized line with a proper dining room and no waterslides or go-karts. Noordam is based in Sydney for summer 2026 to 27 and Westerdam takes over for 2027 to 28, sailing to New Zealand, Tasmania and the South Pacific.
Holland America Line has been cruising since 1873 and still runs on that heritage: mid-sized, uncrowded ships built around a proper Dining Room, a Culinary Council of named chefs, and none of the waterslides or go-kart tracks of the mainstream lines. It suits travellers who cruise for the destinations, the food and a quiet deck to read on, more than for the ship itself.
Noordam is based in Sydney for the 2026 to 27 Australian summer, arriving in October on a Legendary South Pacific Crossing from Seattle. A 35-night circumnavigation departs Sydney on 15 November, with overnight stays in Fremantle and Hobart and late-night calls at Adelaide, Phillip Island and Melbourne. From January to March, 14-night round trips run between Sydney and Auckland, spending a full day in Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park, before Noordam heads back across the Pacific to Seattle in late March. For 2027 to 28 Westerdam takes over, arriving in October 2027 on a 34-night crossing from Seattle via Honolulu and Tahiti, then sailing 14-night voyages between Sydney and Auckland, a 16-night South Australia Christmas voyage and longer Coral Sea and Fiji voyages before returning to Seattle in late March 2028. Volendam’s Grand World Voyage also has sectors starting or ending in Sydney.
Built in 2006 and refreshed in a late-2024 dry dock, Noordam carries 1,916 guests across 11 decks, which feels roomy next to the newest 2,700-guest ships. Pinnacle Grill and the new Morimoto By Sea sit alongside Canaletto’s Italian and Tamarind’s Pan-Asian menu, suite guests get their own Neptune Lounge, and there is a genuine teak promenade deck for a proper walk at sea rather than a running track squeezed around a pool.

Noordam in Sydney for 2026 to 27, with Westerdam taking over for 2027 to 28.
Vista class · Built 2006, refreshed 2024 · 1,916 guests · Sails from Sydney
Noordam
A late-2024 dry dock added Billboard Onboard and the Rolling Stone Lounge to the Music Walk and refreshed every suite. Dining runs from the traditional Dining Room to Canaletto’s Italian, Tamarind’s Pan-Asian menu and the new Morimoto By Sea, and there is a full teak promenade deck to walk rather than just a running track around the pool.
Also in the fleet: Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Oosterdam, Rotterdam, Volendam, Zaandam and Zuiderdam, plus Westerdam, which crosses between Asia and Australia via the Great Barrier Reef each January. Australians can fly-cruise on any of them in Alaska, Europe and the Caribbean.

Holland America Line, answered
Where does Holland America Line sail from in Australia?
Noordam is based in Sydney for the 2026 to 27 season. It arrives in October on a Legendary South Pacific Crossing from Seattle, sails a 35-night Australia circumnavigation from 15 November calling at Fremantle, Hobart, Adelaide, Phillip Island and Melbourne, then runs 14-night round trips to New Zealand from January to March before heading back across the Pacific to Seattle in late March. For 2027 to 28 Westerdam is based in Sydney from late October 2027 to late March 2028, and Volendam’s Grand World Voyage has sectors starting or ending in Sydney.
What is included in a Holland America fare?
Your stateroom, meals in the Dining Room and Lido Market, the production shows and live music, the pools and use of the fitness centre and kids’ club when it is running. Specialty restaurants such as Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Tamarind and Morimoto By Sea, drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi and shore excursions are extra unless you add the Have It All package.
What is Noordam like?
A Vista-class ship carrying 1,916 guests across 11 decks, built in 2006 and refreshed in a late-2024 dry dock that updated every suite and added Billboard Onboard and the Rolling Stone Lounge. It has a genuine teak promenade deck, a retractable roof over the Lido Pool, and four alternative restaurants alongside the main Dining Room rather than a wave pool or a rock wall.
Who does a Holland America cruise suit?
Couples and mature travellers who want an elegant, uncrowded ship with a proper dining room, rather than a floating theme park. Noordam runs a kids’ club for school-holiday sailings, but families chasing waterslides and rock walls will find more of that on a bigger ship with Royal Caribbean or Norwegian.
What is the Have It All package?
Holland America’s optional fare upgrade, typically bundling a beverage package, specialty dining credits, Wi-Fi and a shore excursion credit into one price. It usually works out cheaper than paying for each separately on a longer cruise, and we price your fare with and without it so you can compare before you book.
When is the best time to see Milford Sound and Fiordland?
On Noordam’s January to March round trips between Sydney and Auckland, when the ship spends a full day cruising Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park in New Zealand’s south. The 35-night circumnavigation in November and the South Pacific crossings in October and March do not call there.
