Norwegian Spirit is based in Sydney from December to April in both 2026 to 27 and 2027 to 28, with more Sydney departures than the line has offered before: four night Tassie Taster long weekends to Hobart, 8 to 14 night round trips through Australia and New Zealand taking in Melbourne, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and Milford Sound, a Christmas and New Year sailing, the South Pacific, and one-way voyages to Auckland, Fiji and Singapore.
Spirit is a mid-sized ship of 2,018 guests, fully renovated in 2020 with every cabin rebuilt, Cagney’s Steakhouse and Onda by Scarpetta added, and the adults-only Spice H2O deck at the stern. It is a quieter, grown-up ship rather than a floating theme park, which is exactly why it works for couples and groups of friends.

The whole ship was gutted and rebuilt in 2020: new cabins, new restaurants including Cagney’s, Onda by Scarpetta and Le Bistro, a bigger Mandara Spa, The Local open 24 hours, a Starbucks in the atrium and the adults-only Spice H2O out the back. Small enough to get to know, big enough for a dozen places to eat.

A mid-sized ship of 2,018 guests, built in 1998 and completely renovated in 2020 when every cabin was rebuilt and new restaurants were added. It is quieter and more grown-up than Norwegian’s giant ships, with no waterslides or race track, and it fits under the Sydney Harbour Bridge to sail from the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.
Good for families with older children and teenagers who are happy with a pool, a kids’ club (Splash Academy, ages 3 to 12, and Entourage for teens) and the food. Families wanting waterslides, ropes courses and big-ship attractions should look at Royal Caribbean, or at Norwegian’s larger ships on a fly-cruise.
