Luxury cruises, answered

What counts as a luxury cruise?

A luxury cruise is a small or mid-size ship, usually under 1,000 guests, where most things are included in the fare: drinks, gratuities, dining in every restaurant, Wi-Fi and often excursions. Silversea, Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas, Explora Journeys and PONANT are luxury lines; Azamara and Oceania sit just below, and expedition lines such as Coral Expeditions add landings by tender and Zodiac.

Are luxury cruises worth the higher fare?

Often closer than the fare suggests. Once drinks, gratuities, specialty dining and Wi-Fi are added to a premium big-ship fare, the gap to an all-inclusive luxury fare narrows, and the ship is smaller, quieter and more personal.

What is the cheapest luxury cruise from Australia?

The lowest fare per night on a luxury or expedition sailing we list is A$217 per person, on the 20 night Australia and Bali, Sydney to Singapore on Azamara Quest with Azamara. Fares include taxes, and most of what you would pay extra for on a big ship.

When are luxury cruise deals released?

Luxury lines publish offers through the year, often as reduced deposits, onboard credit, free upgrades or a lower fare for a limited time. The best value is usually booking early for the Australian summer, or a repositioning voyage at the start or end of the season.
