About Celestyal Cruises

Celestyal Cruises is Greece’s own cruise line, founded in Athens in 2014 and built around one idea: show the Greek Islands, Turkey and the wider Mediterranean better than anyone else. The fleet is deliberately small, just two mid-sized ships, and the itineraries are short: 3, 4 or 7 nights, so you island-hop without losing a fortnight of leave. It suits travellers who want an easy, all-inclusive-style Greek holiday rather than a floating resort.

There is no Australian homeport, so Celestyal is a fly-cruise: book flights to Athens, then join Celestyal Discovery or Celestyal Journey at Piraeus (some sailings also start at Kusadasi in Turkey). Most Australians pair the cruise with a Greece holiday, a few nights in Athens before boarding and a stay on Santorini or Mykonos after, since the ship does the island-hopping for you. Celestyal also sails the Mediterranean or the Arabian Gulf over the northern winter.

Celestyal Discovery joined the fleet in 2024 and Celestyal Journey was refurbished in 2023; each carries up to about 1,260 guests. The Celestyal One fare covers meals at Thalassa Restaurant and The Taverna buffet, Greek Deli snacks, soft drinks, filter coffee and tea, WiFi, gratuities and port fees, with specialty dining such as Grill Seekers, Smoked Olive and Journey’s Pink Moon and Chef’s Table charged separately. Evenings bring the Cirque Fantastic show, a casino and Greek dance lessons.

Best for

  • A short, easy fly-cruise around the Greek Islands from Athens
  • Couples, friends and solo travellers wanting value, not a big-ship resort
  • Pairing a few nights in Athens or Santorini with the cruise
  • An all-in-one fare: meals, soft drinks, WiFi and gratuities included

Look elsewhere if you want

  • Anyone wanting alcohol included: Celestyal One covers soft drinks, not wine
  • Big-ship waterslides, rock walls or a dozen specialty restaurants
  • A long, slow crossing: most itineraries run 3 to 7 nights

Celestyal Cruises, answered

Where does Celestyal Cruises sail from, and how do Australians get there?

Celestyal has no Australian homeport, so it is a fly-cruise: book flights to Athens and join Celestyal Discovery or Celestyal Journey at Piraeus, the port for Athens (some sailings also start at Kusadasi in Turkey). It suits a Greece holiday built around the cruise rather than a cruise built around getting there, and we can help arrange the flights and any pre or post-cruise nights.

What is included in a Celestyal fare?

Celestyal One, the line’s single fare, includes meals at Thalassa Restaurant, The Taverna buffet and Greek Deli snacks, unlimited soft drinks, filter coffee, tea, water and juice, essential WiFi, all onboard gratuities and port fees. Alcoholic drinks are not included, but can be prepaid through CelestyalPay at a bonus rate, and specialty restaurants carry an extra charge.

What are Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey like?

Both are mid-sized ships carrying up to about 1,260 guests, small enough that the crew get to know you by name. Celestyal Discovery joined the fleet in 2024 and runs the shorter 3 and 4-night itineraries; Celestyal Journey, refurbished in 2023, is the larger of the two and runs the 7-night and combinable 14-night itineraries.

Who does a Celestyal cruise suit?

Couples, friends, solo travellers and small groups who want an easy, destination-led island-hopping holiday at a fair price. Families are welcome and there is a kids’ club when numbers allow, but travellers wanting waterslides, rock climbing walls or a dozen specialty restaurants should look at a larger ship line instead.

What is the difference between the 3, 4 and 7-night itineraries?

The 3 and 4-night Iconic Greek Islands cruises on Celestyal Discovery visit Mykonos, Kusadasi (for Ephesus), Patmos, Rhodes, Crete and Santorini. Celestyal Journey’s 7-night Idyllic Greece or Heavenly Greece, Italy & Croatia cruises add Kefalonia, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Bari and Corfu, and the two 7-night itineraries can be combined into one 14-night voyage.

When is the best time to sail with Celestyal?

The Greek Islands season runs through the warmer months, when Santorini, Mykonos and the wider Aegean are at their best; Celestyal also offers Mediterranean or Arabian Gulf sailings over the northern winter. Ask us for the current season’s dates, since Celestyal releases its programme progressively rather than years in advance.

How do I book a Celestyal cruise through Luxury Cruises Guide?
