About Silversea

Silversea is ultra-luxury cruising stripped of formality: every suite comes with a butler, drinks and gratuities are already in the fare, and the ships carry a few hundred guests rather than a few thousand. Suites have marble bathrooms and walk-in closets, and the clientele is well travelled and mostly over 50. It suits couples and solo travellers who want everything arranged for them and are prepared to pay for it, rather than families chasing waterslides or big-ship entertainment.

Silver Moon is based in the region from December to February in both 2026 to 27 and 2027 to 28, sailing from Sydney and Melbourne to New Zealand, Tasmania and Queensland before heading on to Bali and Asia in late February, and Silver Dawn adds a Brisbane to Singapore voyage in February 2027. One 14 night sailing runs Sydney to Auckland via Hobart, Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Stewart Island, Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne and Tauranga. Separately, the expedition ship Silver Cloud spends the Kimberley dry season, roughly May to September, running 10 night voyages between Broome and Darwin and 16 night voyages between Darwin and Fremantle, with Zodiacs into the Buccaneer Archipelago, the Hunter River and Ashmore Reef.

Silver Moon carries 596 guests across eight dining venues built around the S.A.L.T. programme, from Japanese Kaiseki to the jazz supper club Silver Note, with a butler for every one of her 298 suites. Silver Cloud is the smaller of the two: a 254 guest, ice-classed expedition ship with 20 Zodiacs and 10 kayaks, converted from a classic ship to a hybrid in 2017, so guests get expedition access with a veranda and a butler rather than a bunk.

Best for

  • Couples and solo travellers who want everything included
  • A genuine all-suite ship with a butler for every guest
  • The Kimberley by proper expedition ship, not a tour boat
  • Foodies: eight venues on Silver Moon and the S.A.L.T. programme

Look elsewhere if you want

  • Families chasing waterslides and kids’ clubs
  • Cruisers on a tight budget: this is among the most expensive ways to sail
  • Big-ship entertainment, casinos and Broadway-style shows

Twenty Zodiacs and ten kayaks reach places larger ships cannot, and 80 per cent of suites keep their veranda even out here. The Kimberley season runs the dry months, roughly May to September, on 10 night voyages between Broome and Darwin calling at the Buccaneer Archipelago, the Hunter River and Ashmore Reef.

Silversea, answered

Where does Silversea sail from in Australia?

Two ships. Silver Moon is based in the region each summer, December to February in 2026 to 27 and 2027 to 28, sailing from Sydney and Melbourne to New Zealand, Tasmania and Queensland. Silver Cloud runs Kimberley expeditions between Broome and Darwin during the dry season, roughly May to September. Outside these windows, Australians fly to join Silversea’s other ships in Asia, the Mediterranean, Alaska and beyond.

What is included in a Silversea fare?

Your suite, butler service, all dining venues bar two, wines and spirits, gratuities and Wi-Fi. The Port-to-Port fare adds shore excursions with your own travel arrangements; the Door-to-Door fare bundles business class flights, chauffeur transfers and a pre-cruise hotel night as well. La Dame and Kaiseki’s dinner service carry a small cover charge on every ship.

What is Silver Moon like?

A 596 guest ship, sister to Silver Muse, with eight restaurants built around the S.A.L.T. destination-dining programme and a butler for every one of her 298 suites. She is mid-sized by mainstream standards but among the larger ships in Silversea’s fleet, with a proper theatre, casino and spa alongside the intimacy the line is known for.

Who does Silversea suit?

Couples, solo travellers and small groups who want an all-inclusive fare and are happy to pay for it: this is among the most expensive ways to cruise. It suits well-travelled guests over 50 more than young families, since there is no kids’ club or waterslide on either Australian ship.

What is the S.A.L.T. programme?

Sea And Land Taste: Silversea’s food and culture programme, pairing shore excursions with regional producers to onboard cooking classes in the S.A.L.T. Lab, destination menus in the S.A.L.T. Kitchen and locally inspired cocktails at the S.A.L.T. Bar. It runs on Silver Moon and her sister ships, changing with the itinerary rather than staying fixed.

When is the best time for the Kimberley?

The dry season, roughly May to September, when Silver Cloud’s 10 night voyages between Broome and Darwin run: cooler days, more reliable weather for Zodiac landings, and tides that drive the region’s waterfalls at their most dramatic. Book early, as cabins on the smaller expedition ships sell out well ahead of the season.
