Two days at sea take you out of the Tasman and into the tropics, and then the islands come one after another. Nouméa first, the French capital of New Caledonia, for the market, the beaches at Anse Vata and the Tjibaou Cultural Centre. Mystery Island next, an uninhabited cay in southern Vanuatu with nothing to do but swim and snorkel. Then a day at Royal Beach Club on Lelepa, a small island off the coast of Efate, followed by Port Vila, Vanuatu’s capital, for the Mele Cascades and the harbour. The last call is Lifou in the Loyalty Islands, with its limestone cliffs and clear water, before two days at sea home to Sydney on 14 January.
