This is the sailing for seeing New Zealand properly, and it only goes one way. Two days out of Sydney you spend a whole day in the fiords: Milford Sound at breakfast, Doubtful Sound around lunch and Dusky Sound into the late afternoon, all from the deck. Then the ports come almost every day. Dunedin for the Otago Peninsula and the albatross colony at Taiaroa Head, Wellington with the ship in port until eight in the evening, Picton at the head of the Marlborough Sounds and half an hour from the cellar doors around Blenheim, and Napier, rebuilt in Art Deco after the 1931 earthquake. A day at sea, then Tauranga, the gateway to Rotorua and the Hobbiton film set, and the Bay of Islands before an early arrival in Auckland on 25 January. Stay on for a few days in Auckland, or fly home from there.
