The last of the summer New Zealand sailings, and the one for Hawke’s Bay. After the fiord day, Milford, Doubtful and Dusky Sounds one after another, and a day in Dunedin, the ship crosses to the North Island for Napier, rebuilt in Art Deco after the 1931 earthquake and at the heart of one of the country’s oldest wine regions. Tauranga follows, for Rotorua’s geothermal valleys or the Hobbiton film set, then thirteen hours in Auckland and a day in the Bay of Islands, where Russell, once called the hell hole of the Pacific, is now a quiet waterfront town of cafes and old timber houses. Two days at sea bring you home to Sydney on 2 March.
