February is late summer in New Zealand, with long days and the water at its warmest, and that is when this round trip goes. Two days out of Sydney comes the fiord day: Milford Sound at eight in the morning, Doubtful Sound over lunch and Dusky Sound until after five. Dunedin follows, ten hours alongside for the Otago Peninsula, the albatrosses at Taiaroa Head or the gardens at Larnach Castle, then Christchurch, for the Botanic Gardens and a punt on the Avon. After a day at sea the ship spends twelve and a half hours in Auckland, long enough for the ferry to Waiheke Island and lunch among the vineyards, then Tauranga for Rotorua, and the Bay of Islands before two days at sea home to Sydney on 18 February.
