October is spring in New Zealand, when the gardens are coming into flower and the hills are at their greenest. Two days out of Sydney, Celebrity Solstice spends a whole day in Fiordland: Milford Sound at eight, Doubtful Sound over lunch and Dusky Sound into the late afternoon. Dunedin follows, ten hours for the Otago Peninsula and the albatross colony at Taiaroa Head, then Christchurch, for the Botanic Gardens and a punt on the Avon. After a day at sea comes the North Island: Tauranga for Rotorua or the Hobbiton film set, a full day in Auckland, and the Bay of Islands, before two days at sea home to Sydney on 29 October.
