1Wed 5 JanAucklandDeparts 6:00 pm
Auckland's skyline and the Sky Tower across the harbour

The City of Sails, built between two harbours and over some fifty volcanic cones. Take the ferry to Waiheke Island for its vineyards and beaches, climb Mount Eden for the view, or stay on the waterfront at the Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter.

2Thu 6 JanTauranga8:00 am – 6:45 pm
Mount Maunganui's beach and the Bay of Plenty

The way in to Rotorua, about an hour inland, with its geysers, bubbling mud pools and Māori culture. Closer to the ship, the summit track and surf beach at Mount Maunganui start a short walk from the wharf.

3Fri 7 JanGisborne9:30 am – 6:00 pm
The Captain Cook statue on Kaiti Hill above Gisborne

The first city in the world to see the sun each day, where Cook first landed in New Zealand in 1769. Kaiti Hill lookout, the Tairawhiti Museum and the wineries of Poverty Bay.

4Sat 8 JanNapier8:00 am – 5:00 pm
An art deco street in Napier with a vintage car

Rebuilt in art deco style after the 1931 earthquake, and it shows: whole streets of pastel facades, best seen on a guided walk or from a vintage car. Hawke’s Bay wineries are on the doorstep, and the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers is a half-day trip in season.

5Sun 9 JanWellington8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Wellington and its harbour from the hills above the city

New Zealand’s compact, windy capital. Ride the red cable car up to the Botanic Garden, spend a few hours in Te Papa, the national museum, which is free, or eat your way along Cuba Street.

6Mon 10 JanLyttelton8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Lyttelton Harbour and the hills of Banks Peninsula near Christchurch

Christchurch has rebuilt its centre since the 2011 earthquakes: the Botanic Gardens, punting on the Avon and the Cardboard Cathedral are the easy picks. Banks Peninsula’s harbour villages and the Canterbury Plains make a good day out beyond the city.

7Tue 11 JanDunedin8:00 am – 5:00 pm
The Otago Harbour and peninsula hills near Dunedin

Settled by Scots and proud of it: stone Victorian streets, the grand Railway Station and Baldwin Street, one of the steepest anywhere. The Otago Peninsula has royal albatross and yellow-eyed penguins a short drive from town.

8Wed 12 JanTimaru8:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Moeraki Boulders on the Otago coast

A port town on the Canterbury coast with a fine Edwardian main street and Caroline Bay. A good base for Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook inland, and the Moeraki Boulders further south.

9Thu 13 JanStewart Island9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Islands off the coast of Stewart Island

New Zealand’s third island, mostly national park: kiwi in the wild, a ferry to bird-filled Ulva Island, and the little town of Oban on Halfmoon Bay. A tender port.

10Fri 14 JanDoubtful SoundScenic cruising 8:00 am – 11:00 am
Steep forested walls of Doubtful Sound

Longer, wider and quieter than Milford, with forested walls, side arms to explore and often a resident pod of bottlenose dolphins. Scenic cruising from the deck: no one goes ashore.

10Fri 14 JanMilford SoundScenic cruising 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Mitre Peak at sunset over Milford Sound

The best known of Fiordland’s sounds, with Mitre Peak rising straight out of the water and waterfalls pouring off the cliffs after rain. It is scenic cruising, seen from the deck, and the weather on the day decides how far in the ship can go.

13Mon 17 JanHobart8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Hobart's bayside suburbs and beach on the Derwent

Australia’s second-oldest city, with Salamanca Place’s sandstone warehouses close to the wharf. MONA is a ferry ride up the Derwent, and kunanyi / Mount Wellington looks down on the whole town.

15Wed 19 JanMelbourneArrives 6:00 am
Melbourne skyline across the Yarra River

Ships berth at Station Pier in Port Melbourne, a short tram ride from the city. Laneway cafes, the galleries along the Yarra and the Queen Victoria Market are the easy picks.

All times are local and subject to change. Ports and tender operations depend on weather and operational conditions. Fares are per guest, double occupancy, in Australian dollars with taxes and fees included, as listed by Silversea on 2 November at 7:24am.
