Fourteen nights is the right length for the South Pacific. From Sydney you’ll call first at Nouméa, then cross to Fiji for two full days: Suva, the capital, with its market and colonial waterfront, and Lautoka, gateway to the Mamanuca islands, both with the ship in port until late evening. From there it’s back through Vanuatu and the Loyalty Islands, tendering ashore at Mystery Island, Lifou and Port Vila, before three quiet days at sea home. Departing 24 March, at the end of the wet season when the water is warmest and the crowds have gone.

Fiji’s sugar city, on the dry western side of Viti Levu. A short drive to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant and its orchids, or a boat out to the islands of the Mamanuca group.

A tiny, uninhabited island off Aneityum in southern Vanuatu, ringed by white sand and reef. Snorkel straight off the beach, buy from the market stalls set up by locals from across the water, and take the tender back when you are done.

The largest of the Loyalty Islands, with white cliffs, coral-filled bays and a strong Kanak culture. Walk to the chapel on the headland above Easo, then snorkel in Jinek Bay. A tender port.

Vanuatu’s capital, on Efate. The Mele Cascades waterfalls, the Blue Lagoon and the busy local market are the favourites, and since the December 2024 earthquake most ships anchor in the harbour and tender guests ashore while the main wharf is repaired.
