Fourteen nights is the time to see New Zealand properly, and this itinerary uses every day. After the fiord day, Milford, Doubtful and Dusky Sounds, come four ports in a row: Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Picton, at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, for the Marlborough wineries and their sauvignon blanc. After a day at sea, the North Island: Tauranga for Rotorua, a full day in Auckland and the Bay of Islands. Two days at sea bring you home to Sydney on 23 December, with Christmas still to come.
