Silver Cloud · Darwin, Broome and Fremantle · July to September 2027 and 2028 · all-inclusive expedition
The Kimberley the roads do not reach: tidal rapids, gorges, waterfalls and rock art along 1,500 kilometres of coast between Darwin and Broome, on an all-suite expedition ship with a butler for every suite and the dining, the drinks and every Zodiac excursion already in the fare.
Silver Cloud spends the dry season here, July to September 2027 and 2028. Ten night voyages run between Darwin and Broome, with Darwin round trips in 2028, and twice a season a 16 night voyage carries on down the Western Australian coast to Fremantle, or up from it. The ship is limited to 200 guests on these voyages, with an expedition team and a fleet of Zodiacs, so the days are spent on the water and ashore in places a bigger ship cannot reach.

The places on the 10 night voyages, every one reached by Zodiac. The order follows the tides, so no two voyages run the same way.
Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef
Two days among the islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago. In Talbot Bay the tide forces the sea through two narrow gaps in the McLarty Range, the Horizontal Falls. At Montgomery Reef a falling tide leaves the reef standing above the water, with the sea pouring off its sides in rivers.
King George River and Falls
A Zodiac run up a sandstone gorge to the twin King George Falls, about 80 metres high and the tallest in the Kimberley. How much water comes over depends on the wet season just gone, so the early voyages see the most.
Hunter River and Porosus Creek
Mangrove channels under red cliffs, saltwater crocodiles on the mud banks, and Zodiacs quiet enough to get close. The Hunter River is also where the optional helicopter flights to Mitchell Falls leave from, at extra cost.
Vansittart Bay and Jar Island
Gwion Gwion rock art in the shelters on Jar Island, among the oldest figurative art anywhere, and on the salt flats nearby the wreck of a wartime DC-3 that came down in 1942 and still lies where it stopped.
Swift Bay
Wandjina and Gwion Gwion paintings in the rock shelters above the bay, reached by Zodiac and a short walk with the expedition team, who explain what you are looking at.
Ashmore Reef
A marine park far out in the Timor Sea: seabirds nesting in their thousands, turtles in the lagoon and, when the weather allows, snorkelling and Zodiac cruising over the reef.
Wyndham and the Ord
The Kimberley’s northernmost town, at the head of the Cambridge Gulf, with the Five Rivers Lookout above it. Optional flights over the Bungle Bungles and the Ord River leave from here, at extra cost.
On the 16 night voyages, the Western Australian coast
Murujuga and the Dampier Archipelago
The largest concentration of rock engravings on earth: tens of thousands of petroglyphs on the red rocks of Murujuga, among islands of white beaches and turquoise water.
Ningaloo and the Muiron Islands
The northern tip of the Ningaloo coast. Coral straight off the beach, turtles and reef fish, and snorkelling from the Zodiacs.
Shark Bay and Cape Peron
The red cliffs and white dunes of Francois Peron National Park on the Shark Bay World Heritage coast, where dolphins and dugongs feed over the seagrass.
The Abrolhos Islands
A hundred or so low coral islands off Geraldton, where the Batavia was wrecked in 1629. Sea lions, seabirds and some of the southernmost coral in the Indian Ocean.
The Montebello Islands
A scatter of islands and lagoons off the Pilbara coast, now a marine park, with Zodiac cruising and snorkelling in clear, calm water.
Getting there
Darwin
The turnaround port at the eastern end, a direct flight from every capital. Worth a night or two either side for Kakadu or Litchfield, which we can arrange.
Broome
Cable Beach, the pearling history and the camel trains at sunset: the turnaround port at the western end, with direct flights to Perth and, in season, the east coast.
Fremantle
Perth’s port, where the 16 night voyages start or finish, with the city half an hour away.
The ship: Silver Cloud
Built in 1994 as a classic Silversea ship and rebuilt in 2017 for expeditions, with an ice-strengthened hull, 20 Zodiacs and 10 kayaks, so she is at home in the polar regions and the tropical Kimberley alike. All suites, a butler for every one, four restaurants, and 200 guests on these voyages rather than her usual 254.
Expedition ship · Built 1994, rebuilt as an expedition ship 2017 · 254 guests (limited to 200 in the Kimberley)
Silver Cloud
Silversea’s first hybrid ship, ice-classed for polar expeditions and equally at home in the tropical Kimberley. Twenty Zodiacs and ten kayaks reach places larger ships cannot, and 80 per cent of suites keep their veranda even out here. The Kimberley season runs the dry months, roughly May to September, on 10 night voyages between Broome and Darwin calling at the Buccaneer Archipelago, the Hunter River and Ashmore Reef.
Every suite on Silver Cloud comes with a butler, and 80 per cent of them have a veranda. Lead-in fares per person, two sharing, across the dates on sale; the table above has each date.

Silversea in the Kimberley, answered
When does Silver Cloud sail the Kimberley?
In the dry season: July, August and September 2027 and 2028. The 10 night voyages run between Darwin and Broome, with Darwin round trips as well, and the 16 night voyages join the Kimberley to Fremantle along the Western Australian coast. The first departs 15 July 2027 and the last 4 September 2028.
Darwin to Broome or Broome to Darwin, which is better?
The same coast and the same places either way, so pick the direction by the flights that suit you. The expedition team plans each day around the tides, so the order of the landings differs voyage to voyage whichever way the ship is heading.
What is included in the fare?
Everything on board: a butler for every suite, all the dining, drinks throughout the ship, gratuities and Wi-Fi, plus the Zodiac excursions, the kayaks and the expedition team on every landing. Not included are flights to Darwin, Broome or Perth, which we can add, and the optional scenic flights over Mitchell Falls and the Bungle Bungles.
How much does a Silversea Kimberley cruise cost?
The 10 night voyages start at A$15,300 per person for a Vista Suite, two sharing, and the 16 night voyages at A$24,850 per person for a Vista Suite. Those are the lead-in suites on the cheapest dates; the table above has every date and suite, and prices move between checks, so we confirm the fare before you decide.
How active is it?
Most days have a Zodiac excursion or two, some with a wet landing onto a beach and a short walk on uneven rock to the art sites or a lookout. You need to be steady on your feet getting in and out of a Zodiac, and the expedition team helps at every step. Back on board it is as comfortable as any Silversea ship, and nobody has to go ashore.
Will I see the Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef?
Both are on the itinerary as the two Buccaneer Archipelago days, and the whole voyage is planned around them. The tides decide the order and the timing: the expedition team takes the Zodiacs to the falls when the tidal race is running and to Montgomery Reef as the water drops.
How do I get to Darwin or Broome?
Flights are not in the fare. Darwin has direct flights from every capital; Broome has direct flights from Perth year round and from the east coast in the dry season. We book the flights, a night in a hotel before the ship and the transfers as part of the same quote, so you arrive the day before with nothing left to arrange.
